oNe Minor upset as blitz, Bravado, and Singularity advance to open qualifier #1 semifinals
Day 1 of the first IEM Katowice Minor open qualifier has come to a close, seeing Bravado, blitz, and Singularity advance into the round-of-four. One quarterfinal match between Mythic and FURIA remains, set to take place tomorrow at 6 PM EDT to determine the final team that will be competing for a spot in the closed qualifier.
The three most notable inital upsets saw Final Feature eliminated early on in the Ro32 by N4Js Little Beauties, while Infamous and iNTACT were sent packing just one round later in the Ro16 by blitz and The Ruskiz, respectively.
There was still one more surprising result to be had as oNe went up against blitz in the quarterfinals on Cache, with the Brazilian side seemingly unable to muster a solid offensive half by finding only 6 rounds to blitz's 9. oNe almost managed to even the score off the back of a pistol round win in the second half, but blitz continued to keep the lead just out of reach of the Brazilians to close out the match 16-12 in their favor.
The other two quarterfinal matchups went as expected as Spacestation dominated Logan "Voltage" Long's The Ruskiz mix with a 12-3 CT half on Train before quickly closing out the match 16-7.
Bravado, led in fragging by Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek, mustered 7 rounds on their T side of Nuke against Marcos "tacitus" Castilho's lmfao before giving up only 2 rounds on their CT side for a 16-10 scoreline of their own.
Just one quarterfinals matchup remains as Mythic will take on FURIA tomorrow, with the winner moving on to face blitz for a spot in the Americas Minor closed qualifier. The newly minted Singularity lineup will go up against Bravado for a spot of their own, with their matchup set to kick off at 7 PM EDT.
