Report: Stewie2K, tarik seek to reunite with Cloud9 core for WESG 2018
Despite taking the first Major win for an American team at the ELEAGUE Major in Boston, Cloud9 have been severely hobbled following the departure of the team's two strongest players for MIBR. With two European players currently on their roster, many people have longed for the days of the all-American Cloud9 roster at a large international event.
According to a report from DBLTAP, those days may return, albeit only briefly. According to the report, Jake “Stewie2K” Yip and Tarik “tarik” Celik are both interested in playing with Cloud9 in the WESG circuit, as the organizer requires teams to field players of one nationality.
But while both of the players are intent on playing with their former teammates in WESG events, the current tournament schedule indicates that it might not happen. MIBR, who Stewie2K and tarik currently play for, were invited to IEM Chicago last month as a part of the event's announcement.
The WESG Americas finals, which will take place at the Santa Anita Park in California, is set to take place on November 9th through the 11th. For reference, IEM Chicago is currently scheduled to start on November 6th and run to the 11th. As the WESG Americas finals will play out during IEM Chicago's playoffs, Stewie2K and tarik would be unable to play with Cloud9 in California should they make it past the group stage.
Cloud9 previously participated in last year's WESG circuit, making it to the world finals through the North Americas finals. Despite only dropping a map to Fnatic in their group, the Americans ultimately fell in the quarterfinals to oNe 2-1.
