DreamHack to ramp up security for Stockholm and upcoming events
DreamHack have released a statement on their website to clarify their stance on security at their upcoming Masters stop in Stockholm. There, the tournament organizer plans to work in conjuction with the Ericsson Globe security team to ensure a safe environment at the event.
Although details remain sparse for security purposes, DreamHack's statement indicates that security measures will likely be ramped up at upcoming events as well. The MTG owned company's security precautions are likely to be echoed by ESL, who already have a number of security measures in place at events and are currently "evaluating the situation" according to DBLTAP.
The announcement follows yesterday's mass shooting incident in Jacksonville, Florida, where a gunman opened fire at a Madden NFL 19 tournament, killing two and injuring eleven other people before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A discussion about security at esports events was quickly raised, with GEXCon being one of the first tournaments to come out with a statement regarding an increase in security.
DreamHack Masters Stockholm is set to run from August 29th-September 2nd, and will have $250,000 on offer. It is also FaZe's final chance to secure a win in the Intel Grand Slam before their ESL One New York 2017 victory expires. Stockholm is the first premier event with many of the world's top teams in attendance to take place after the August player break, and is the only major event before the FACEIT Major kicks off in London on September 5th.
