Misfits upset Liquid; stay in Americas Minor upper bracket
Cobblestone began with Liquid taking the pistol round and following it up with four more on their terrorist side. Misfits took round 6 with four men left alive, beginning a dominant streak of round wins. The Frenchmen François "AmaNEk" Delauney and David "devoduvek" Dobrosavljevic led the way for their team to win 10 rounds in a row and to finish the half 10-5.
The second half kicked off with a crazy pistol round, as AmaNEk was left in a 1v2 and managed to kill the defuser and the other enemy with very little time left. The next two rounds were traded between the teams, but Misfits established their economic dominance after round win with all five members alive and a quadruple kill by Hunter "SicK" Mims.
Misfits quickly get up to 15 rounds, but Liquid didn't let the game slip so easily, as the fully American team won the 3v3 retake to keep them in the game. The final round was extremely hectic, with trades going back and forth, but Misfits came out on top and took Cobblestone 16-8.
Moving onto Train, the pick of Misfits, Liquid were able to pick up some initial steam by securing the opening pistol on the Counter-Terrorist side. They were able to tack on one more before Misfits got into the match, and went on a five run streak.
Misfits' winning ways were stopped, however, when Josh "jdm64" Marzano, in a 1v3 situation, was able to grab a quick kill in connector, and then defuse the bomb in smoke for Liquid's third. The victory got the momentum rolling once again for Liquid, and they were able to finish the half leading 9-6.
Liquid kept the ball rolling in the second half, winning the second pistol in a clean sweep, and this time were able to take the two following rounds. Misfits then went on another streak of rounds, tying the game at 11-11 and eventually getting up to a 11-13 score in their own favor, before Liquid would win another round.
The teams would find themselves deadlocked again at both 13-13 and 14-14, in that 29th round Liquid were able to plant in the inner bombsite, and Misfits were forced to save the guns on their two surviving players. Sadly for Sean "seang@res" Gares and his men, that save would be for not, as they would fall in the final round and yield the map to Liquid with a 16-14 scoreline.
On the third and final map, Mirage, Misfits grabbed the opening pistol on the CT-side, and ran the score up to 5-0 before Liquid could counter with two of their own. From there, the teams would trade streaks of three rounds, until Misfits managed to win the 14th round on a full-save. However, Liquid were able to recover and win the following round, and were able to keep Misfits' lead slim at 9-7.
The second half pistol was an exciting affair, with Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz getting a knife on catwalk, and seang@res making a valiant attempt to win the round in a 1v3 situation, but Liquid were ultimately able to come out on top. In the 21st round, with Misfits up 12-9, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken stood tall on the A site, putting up a quad kill with the Galil. Unfortunately for Liquid, they lost the following round to Misfits' partial buy.
From here, Misfits were able to attain matchpoint, but with his team's back up against the wall, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski stood staunch on the defense, and kept their hopes alive. Liquid were able to stave off defeat until the 29th round, in which Misfits got the bomb down with everyone in the server still alive. The resulting shoot-out went the way of Misfits, and they claimed the series victory.
Misfits will now wait for the winner of the match between CLG and compLexity, and have a chance to punch their ticket to the Major Qualifier today. Liquid, on the other hand, are put in the surprising position of having to make a run through the lower bracket.
