G2 beams into ESL One New York
G2 have been invited to ESL One New York 2018, ESL have announced. They are the final invite to the eight-team tournament which will begin on September 26th.
G2 recently chose to go with Richard "shox" Papillon's proposed roster, after the other project with Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas failed to impress. The new roster with Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans and Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux attended the ECS Season 5 Finals, but fell in the group stage, losing to NRG and FaZe.
The North American open qualifier for ESL One New York will begin today June 20th, with the closed qualifier starting on the 25th.
Coach of NRG Chet "ImAPet" Singh seemed surprised at this choice of invite, as he tweeted after the announcement the fact that NRG were ranked higher than G2 on ESL's world ranking:
Here is the updated team list for the $250K ESL event:
FaZe | Fnatic |
G2 | Liquid |
mousesports | Natus Vincere |
Qualifier | Qualifier |
G2's next event is ESL One Cologne, starting July 3rd, which will feature most of the top teams in the world. They will look to prove to the G2 organization that choosing shox's team was the right decision.
