Cloud9 show promise; finish BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen in fifth
Cloud9's run at BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen has come to an end, after losses to NiP and Astralis. In the latter, the one-time American hope nearly completed a comeback against the #1 world ranked Danes, but ultimately fell short.
With wins against MIBR and FaZe, as well as close losses to Natus Vincere and Astralis, Cloud9 have finished the event in fifth place, just shy of being able to participate in the Stand-off. Despite their 2-3 record, the team finished the event with a positive round difference, as well as all of their players boasting over 1.0 ratings (aside from coach Soham "valens" Chowdhury.)
All things considered, Cloud9 did much better in Denmark than most would have predicted, especially with all the adversity the team had to deal with. Firstly, they were fielding Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey in place of the soon-to-depart Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, and then unexpectedly needed coach valens to step in for in-game leader Mikail "Golden" Selim when the Swede fell ill.
Cloud9 now have some time off before they must close out their ESL Pro League Season 8 campaign, which they will do against Ghost and NRG. They have an outside chance of qualifying for the league's finals, and are currently in position to do the same in ECS.
It is not known if the Cloud9 x kioShiMa collaboration will continue, though both sides seem open to the possibility.
