Complexity collapse against Vitality; what went wrong?
After kicking off their BLAST Premier Spring Groups run with a harrowing victory over NIP, Complexity were rewarded for their efforts with a matchup against Vitalty in the upper-bracket final of Group A. Unfortunately, Complexity did not have it in them to go toe-to-toe with the BLAST.tv Paris Major champs, faltering 16-1 on their pick of Inferno and 16-6 on Vitality's selection of Vertigo.
An unbelievable amount of firepower
At this point, I am wholly convinced that having Shahar "flameZ" Shushan, Emil "Magisk" Reif, Lotan "Spinx" Giladi, and Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut on a single team constitutes some kind of human rights violation, considering the magnitude of individual skill on this squad is so oppressive that it almost certainly goes against the UN charter. With each of these individuals capable of completely taking over a match, when all four are firing on all cylinders, there is really only so much that Complexity can do when matching into them.
-
flameZ's 1.20 rating, the lowest on his team, eclipsed the highest-rated Complexity layer by a margin of 0.50
-
Spinx's masterclass performance on Inferno (2.00 rating) was a key factor in preventing Complexity from notching more than a single round
A difficult-to-maneuver veto
Player for player, there can be little doubt that Vitality beats out Complexity in regard to individual skill. Matters were only made worse in this series by the depth of Vitality's map pool. While Inferno is a map that Complexity enjoy playing, the squad have claimed only a single win on it in the last three months, against GamerLegion in the BLAST.tv Paris Major Challengers Stage. The map is Vitality's statistically worst in the last three months, but considering the fact that these losses are to Cloud9 and Heroic, with previous wins over the latter team as well as against G2 and OG, that must be taken with a grain of salt.
Vertigo offers a similar tale; Complexity played it three times in the past three months, with only a close win over Astralis to write home about, while Vitality enjoyed a 75% win rate across eight maps played over the past three months. Options for Complexity were otherwise limited. Overpass, the team's statistically best map, and their only map with a positive win rate over the past three months, is also one Vitality are willing and able to play, also boasting a 75% win rate across eight maps in recent months.
-
Vitality lack a single map with a sub-50% win rate in the past three months
-
Conversely, Complexity have only a single map with a positive win rate in the past three months (Overpass)
This loss was no doubt a tough one, but considering the recent changes to their squad and the quality of their opposition, Complexity should simply be looking ahead to future matches rather than dwelling on the loss. Complexity will now be preparing to face off against NIP once again, scheduled for July 18th at 09:00AM.
