PW Shanghai Major Day Six Recap: Liquid nears playoff spot, Wildcard folds

One team nears a major goal while another reaches the journey's end.

Day two of the Perfect World Shanghai Major Elimination Stage is over, and sadly one of the two remaining North American teams has finished with the dreaded 0-3 result. Wildcard is out after a prolific run at the RMR and the Opening Stage, but Liquid is poised to reach top eight with one more best-of-three win.

World Wildcard lets the lead slip vs. GamerLegion

Wildcard came out firing against GamerLegion. With their backs against the wall, Wildcard rode the coattails of a red hot performance from Tim "susp" Ångström on Dust2, who put up 28 kills while dying only 13 times in the map one win. On Ancient though, it was Henrich "sl3nd" Hevesi who took control, anchoring GamerLegion's CT-side in the second half to tie the series.

The series remained close heading into the second half of Anubis, but Wildcard's T-side faltered against a stalwart GamerLegion CT-side, ending the magical run in Shanghai. Still, the team can leave the Major with their heads held high after impressing the global community during this run.

World Liquid handles FURIA, draws another Brazilian team in advancement match

Liquid continues to play themselves into form at the Shanghai Major, taking another best-of-one victory against a FURIA roster that stunned Spirit and nearly knocked off Vitality in the first two rounds. Liquid found something really special on their T-side Inferno, turning up the aggression and winning trades so handedly they led 8-4 at half despite losing most of the opening duels.

FURIA made Liquid work for the win with a fast start in the second half, closing the gap to 9-9. But after what proved to be a crucial timeout, Liquid locked FURIA out of the bomb sites, claiming four straight rounds to take Inferno 13-9.
