GEXCON day one and two recap; AZIO & Vision headline semis
After two days of action in the Dulles Expo Centre for GEXCON, the group stage has been completed and the quarterfinals have wrapped up. Vision, AZIO, War Fleet and x1 Academy have all made it into the semifinals for the final day of the event.
Featuring six groups, the first day saw groups A-F complete their opening and winners' matches. On day one, Vision, War Fleet, Grand Old Party Supporters, Broken Alliance, AZIO, and x1 Academy were able to top their groups. AZIO and Broken Alliance showed the most promise as they easily swept their group away by losing under ten rounds over two maps. By only having three teams in their group, x1 Academy was given a bye round and breezed to the playoffs after a 16-4 win in the winners' match.
Day two featured the remaining losers' and decider matches with the biggest surprise coming from Excelerate who ended up having to get out of their group from the losers bracket due to Hunter "Hollywood" Neal and Robert "kilroy" Dahut teaming up once again as War Fleet and defeating the MDL team. The other decider winners include Zepheria, Penn State, Lethal, TangoWorldWide and LAN Lords.
The tournament featured a Round of 12 playoff format with four teams earning byes into the quarter-finals. AZIO and x1 Academy were unlucky enough to not have a bye after topping their group and had to play in the Ro12.
The Ro12 went quickly with Excelerate eliminating their opponents in a lopsided round difference of 32-5. AZIO mirrored the domination with a 32-3 differential of their own against LAN Lords. x1 Academy took care of TangoWorldWide swiftly as well with a 2-0. Lethal continued the 2-0 trend in a less destructive manner as they beat Zepheria 16-11 on Cache and 19-15 on Mirage.
Rounding out day two, the quarterfinals were completed with x1 Academy taking care of their opponents Grand Old Part Supporters 2-0. War Fleet were able to continue their steamroll of the event with a 2-0 over Lethal. The ex-BxA boys on AZIO were able to assert their dominance in 2-0 fashion over the current roster that Broken Alliance fields.
Controversially, event favorite Vision was matched up against another event favorite Excelerate in the quarterfinals. The two teams went the distance with a 19-16 Inferno map that Excelerate was able to take. Vision cleaned up the remainder of the series with a 16-10 on Mirage, and a commanding 16-5 Nuke to propel them into the semis.

Once the semis has completed, the winners will compete at 2:00 PM EDT for the lion's share share of $10,000 and a spot in the NSG Eastern Championship Finals. The payout for GEXCON looks as such:
