Valve is adding a new layer of protection to CS2 items, says dataminer
Prominent CS2 dataminer Gabe Follower found new information in the CS2 code files that suggests that Valve might be introducing a new layer of protection to items in CS2. This rumored feature is called Trade Protection, and a user could put this on an item to restrict it from being traded or modified for a period of time.
Currently, the trade lock lasts for seven days for users who have the Steam mobile authenticator activated. However, when an item is under the alleged trade protection, the item cannot be traded or sold to other players until the protection is removed.
Trade Lock was introduced to prevent scammers from immediately selling items that they've stolen from users.
This system would add extra security with the goal of preventing users from getting scammed and losing their in-game items. It's not known exactly how the feature will work, but it's thought that Trade Protection will give the user more time to react should their account be compromised.
