Cloud9 breaks silence about the future of its CS division
Cloud9 has finally commented on the future of its Counter-Strike division after the disbandment of the Russian lineup ahead of the 2025 season. The only members left in Cloud9 after the disbandment are the Russian coach Konstantin "groove" Pikiner and the anchor Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy, who is currently on the bench.
"So sorry for the lack of comms lately," Cloud9's Senior Social Media Manager Matheus Portilho wrote on Reddit on January 27th after a fan questioned the organization about the plans for CS.
"We are still working internally on next steps for the CS division as we speak and should have something for this or next week. The beginning of the year has been really hectic on our side and we’re trying as much as we can to provide an update for our C9 CS fans. Thank you for your patience!"
The Russian lineup had a subpar performance at the Perfect World Shanghai Major and Cloud9 offloaded Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhaylov and Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov to BetBoom, Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko to G2, and Kaisar "ICY" Faiznurov to Virtus.pro during the player break. The organization also released Timofey "interz" Yakushin from his contract.
The statement isn't much, but at least now fans know that Cloud9 will reveal its next steps for CS this week or the next one. A return in this first semester seems heavily unlikely as Cloud9 would struggle to qualify for the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
