Long live Counter-Strike

CS2 appears among the most-watched esports of 2024, but is far from the top

Counter-Strike is far from dying.

CS2 was the third most-watched esport of 2024, Esports Charts announced on January 24th. Our beloved FPS amassed 434.6 million hours watched of esports events last year and nearly finished in second instead of MOBA Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). The popular Chinese MOBA had 475.8 million hours watched.

However, while CS2 was close to beat MLBB, both of them were far from reaching League of Legends's level of popularity. Riot Games' MOBA was the uncontested most-watched esport of 2024 as it amassed 749.6 million hours watched of esports events.

All in all, Counter-Strike has a lot to celebrate as it saw an increase in viewership in 2024 in comparison to 2023. This happened mainly because we had two Majors instead of just one.

VALORANT and Dota 2 completed the top five with 355.6 million and 319.8 million hours watched of esports events, respectively. The Riot Games' FPS finished above Dota 2 in comparison to 2023.

None of these other games, though, had as many hours aired as CS2 events. Counter-Strike leads in that regard with an outstanding 23,952 hours. VALORANT, the second with the most hours aired, only had 11,057 in comparison.
