malbsMd makes his first Major moment, rescues G2 at PW Shanghai Major

In G2's hour of need, the Guatemalan rising star who forged his name in the North American scene delivered the heroics against, well, HEROIC.

Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa has been playing well overall in his first ever Major, but his first Major moment and arguably his career highlight so far came in the absolute final hour. In the third map of the quarterfinal, in overtime, malbsMd found himself in a 1v3 on the B site with only 24 seconds to work with.

Wasting no time, malbsMd grabbed the bomb and brought down Guy "NertZ" Iluz. With both remaining HEROIC players in market, malbsMd faked the plant to draw them out, and isolated René "TeSeS" Madsen and Rasmus "sjuush" Beck to steal the round and ignite the crowd.

This round turned out to be the key momentum swing for G2. Had malbsMd lost, G2 would have been down two rounds to start overtime. Instead, this round re-energized G2, who claimed the next three rounds to win Mirage and avoid the series upset. It was a fitting moment given the incredible performance malbsMd had already had on that map, and a few rounds later he followed up on this clutch with a huge 3K on G2's first CT round in OT.
