Report: G2 pursuing M80 star
Several sources have informed Dust2.us and HLTV that IEM Dallas 2024 winners G2 are currently interested in acquiring the services of M80's Guatemalan rifler Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa as an addition to their star-studded squad. It is unknown at this time who G2 will be replacing on their starting lineup.
malbsMd would be a surprising addition for G2 as the organization has been more known towards acquiring European-based players since entering the title in 2015. G2's first player from the Americas region came in the former of stand-in Jake "Stewie2k" Yip who actually helped the squad secure the IEM Dallas 2024 title earlier this month.
It is no secret that malbsMd has become a hot commodity over the last year while on M80. The Desert Eagle demon has been one of the region's best players thanks to his 1.25 HLTV Rating, 1.42 Impact Rating, and 87.2 ADR since joining the roster.
While the competition domestically is not comparable to Europe, his LAN performances are nothing to scoff at. He has posted a 1.16 HLTV Rating, a 1.34 Impact Rating, and 84.8 ADR at the six LAN events while on M80. His best performances came during the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR and ESL Pro League Season 19 where the Guatemalan put up 1.33 and 1.28 HLTV Ratings, respectively.
One source told Dust2.us that M80 has asked for figure well into the mid-six figures, which could make malbsMd one of the most expensive transfers for a North American player. M80 has already begun their search for a replacement and reached out to several teams to make inquires.
M80 has time to find their new player and are likely to remain in the American region due to their regional placement.
It is not known who malbsMd will be replacing, however the community continues to focus on IGL Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen and support player Nemanja "nexa" Isaković as weak points for the fourth-best team in the world. malbsMd is not known for his ability to call and is more used to playing in fragging roles, contrary to the Serbian's anchor positions that he tends to fill.
Dust2.us has reached out to representatives of M80 and G2 for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
