A paiNful ending for BIG

The Brazilians are unable to get things going in Serbia

Coming up as one of the more hyped teams from North America thanks to impressive performances in domestic competition and at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR, paiN were poised to take their domination to Europe during a bootcamp in Serbia. After a first loss against UK side Into the Breach, paiN now had to play against the Germans from BIG, who saw their own surprise loss against 00 Nation.

The match started out on BIG's pick of Mirage, a map that paiN know all too well thanks to wins over Liquid and their domestic competition. However, this was not a map that they would find any comfort on at all against the Germans.

Despite BIG starting out on their T-side, they would immediately take charge and lead the storm to a 10-5 half, with paiN unable to stop the onslaught. With the sides switched, the momentum was purely with the Germans as they would win six rounds in a row to close out their pick 16-5.

A humiliating and demoralizing defeat on Mirage would spell trouble for the Brazilians as they made their way to Nuke. paiN would once again be unable to string anything together on their T-side as they quickly fell behind 9-1 to BIG before slightly closing the gap to 11-4 to close out their offense and finally move onto the CT side.

The CT side surprisingly is where paiN came back to life as they immediately took eight rounds to take the lead at 12-11, but let the lead slip as BIG eventually were able to tie it back up and force overtime in a back and forth late second-half. In a double overtime, paiN constantly fought to ensure that they would stay in the game and were able to finish it out 22-20.

With the decider map of Vertigo on the cards, it would be paiN that started out on the offensive, but they would struggle to get things going as they would fall behind 7-2 to get things going. However, they would win four of the next six rounds to close the gap as the half finished 6-9 in BIG's favor.

Now, paiN were able to play defense and took that opportunity to heart as they came roaring back to not only tie it up, but take a 13-10 lead. The Brazilians would continue their dominance in defense as they cruised to a 16-10 victory over BIG, securing their life in the competition.

paiN are now 1-1 in the competition and will find out their next opponent soon.
