M80 bolsters esports foothold with beastcoast acquisition
The M80 Esports organization, which prolifically entered North American Counter-Strike back in 2023, is expanding operations with the acquisition of beastcoast.
By acquiring beastcoast, M80 will acquire a Dota 2 roster, a sizable "Pokemon media business," and a number of key beastcoast staff members. Since M80 already competes in Rainbow Six Siege and fields its own roster, the organization will not field beastcoast's NA roster that won the BLAST Manchester Major this past May.
In the December 5th press release, M80 founder and CEO said the move should "continue the breakneck momentum we’ve maintained since launching M80 just a year ago."
M80's early success in North American CS has helped facilitate the organization's growth. The organization has succeeded in scouting talent such as Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa, who was transferred to G2, and Mason "Lake" Sanderson. Back in October, M80's VP of Esports Don "SyykoNT" Muir told Dust2.us that the organization was ahead of schedule on their "two to three year build."
Recently though, M80 suffered a bit of a setback at the Perfect World Americas RMR Major, falling short of making the Major for the second time this year. Still, the team will compete in ESL Pro League for the second straight time starting in February, after a breakout performance last season.
