Quartet of Brazilian teams headline ECS Season 8 Week 2
FACEIT have released the bracket for ECS Season 8 Week 2, and with Liquid, NRG, and eUnited at ESL One New York, a number of teams from the Pinnacle Cup have found their way into the bracket.
Headlining the list of teams this week is MIBR, who look to redeem their new roster after disappointing performances at BLAST Pro Series Moscow and V4 Sports Festival. MIBR are joined by three other Brazilian squads as Sharks, ex-Luminosity, and INTZ all return from week one.
Another interesting addition is Singularity, as the team's roster appears to be in a state of flux with Ryan "ryann" Welsh and Singularity's CEO Atle Stehouwer being kicked from the team's ESEA roster last night. Last week Singularity played with Robert "robby" Brown as a stand-in for ryann, although it is currently unknown if the same roster will be premiering next week.
The opening matchups for the second week of ECS Season 8 are as follows:
September 30th (Quarterfinals) | |||
---|---|---|---|
MIBR | vs. | ex-Luminosity | 6:00 PM EDT |
INTZ | vs. | ATK | 6:00 PM EDT |
Sharks | vs. | The Quest | 9:00 PM EDT |
Singularity | vs. | Cloud9 | 9:00 PM EDT |
With NRG and Liquid not in attendance for week two, Cloud9 and Sharks are in a prime position to claim a spot in the finals, with both squads in close contention to end the first two weeks with the most prize winnings.
Another developing wrinkle in ECS is the continued status of NRG. With rumors swirling that NRG's roster is reportedly set to depart to Evil Geniuses it is unknown if the players will be able to retain their spot in the league.
As NRG are an original franchise partner, they are likely unable to transfer their license; however, a tweet from ex-Luminosity player Lucas "steel" Lopes possibly suggests this stance is changing as Luminosity were also an original franchise partner, with their license recently being awarded to the players.
