MIBR win ESL Challenger Melbourne
MIBR has come away with a 2-0 win against Aurora to come away with the top prize at ESL Challenger Melbourne. Along with the $50,000 prize, the organization has also automatically earned a berth to ESL Pro League Season 20. The Brazilians missed out on ESL Pro League Season 19 after falling to Imperial in the South American qualifier.
Felipe "insani" Yuji was the standout performer throughout the entire event as his 1.51 HLTV Rating over eight maps was comfortably the best over everyone else, including Party Astronauts' Danny "cxzi" Strzelczyk who was second with a 1.30 HLTV Rating over five maps.
The series started off with MIBR and Rafael "saffee" Costa started out with a tight first half advantage on Mirage as the Brazilians eeked out a 7-5 lead. Things continued to be competitive in the second half as MIBR were able to comeback from a 7-9 deficit to tie it up at 10-10 and eventually squeeze out a 13-11 win on their opponent's map pick.
Anubis was a bit easier for the Brazilians as they were able to claim seven first-half T-side rounds before switching to the defense. Aurora consistently threatened and were able to plant four times to start the second half, but it was MIBR that were able to defuse the first three of the four plants to give themselves an advantage. MIBR eventually proved too much to handle as they closed out the map 13-7.
