The grind back to tier-one continues for FaZe

Is the player break dead? FaZe and Legacy join team list for Chinese LAN during player break

There's no rest for the weary in this VRS world.

The Counter-Strike calendar is relentless. Throughout the season, many events around the world take place mere days apart as teams must choose between grinding to stay competitive or resting to not burn out.

While these roughly month-long breaks after majors have historically been agreed on as breaks, the advent of VRS has changed things. The constant grind for VRS to maintain your place in the circuit has led to LANs being run wherever and whenever possible.

While the summer break was time for all to rest, now it's more time to compete as many teams like FaZe and Legacy have signed up for the XSE Pro League 2026, a Chinese LAN running less than two weeks after the end of the IEM Cologne Major and during the informal "player break".

This isn't a completely new phenomenon as some tournaments have cut the break slightly shorter in the past. For example, FISSURE Playground 1 began about a week before what was expected to be the first notable event of the season, IEM Cologne 2025. The difference here is that the upcoming Chinese LAN is scheduled to run in the middle of the break rather than at the end of it.

The signup list, outside of Legacy, is also mostly teams on the cusp of receiving tier-one invites, as they are all between #15 and #40 on the global VRS. While only eight of the 16 teams have been announced, the number of notable teams is already impressive. The event is set to run from July 1st to July 12th in Guangzhou, China. It will feature a staggering $1 million prize pool and a crowd for the playoffs.

Will this event be an outlier or a sign that the previously sacred summer break is fair game for more events?
