Counter-Strike creator: “I really think redoing all the models at the moment"

Wouldn't that be fun?

Mihn "Gooseman" Lee, one of the creators of Counter-Strike in 1999, kickstarted an interesting discussion on X about the current and older player models in the game.

Gooseman said he "really thinks" Valve are redoing "all of the models" at the moment and more importantly, the developer plan on doing map-based operators.

Map-based operators existed in CS:GO, but were removed from the game in 2023. Although Valve never really explained why these models were removed, they were likely deleted because some of them represented real-life factions.

For Gooseman, it would be "blasphemous" to not re-introduce the original Terrorist and CT models from Counter-Strike and CS:GO.

Curiously, what sparked these thoughts from Gooseman was a post from Mohan "launders" Govindasamy.

The popular Canadian caster said, probably joking, that the next three Majors should be in Tokyo, Seoul, and Toronto, to expand CS2's footprint in Asia and North America.

Gooseman, who was born in Vietnam, chimed in with an opinion of his own, saying he regrets not making Asian models while he worked in Counter-Strike.

The current player models available in CS2 are often criticized because some of them blend into the map, making it harder to spot them. Players also have to pay for specific agents, whereas the beloved map-based operators were free for all.

While Gooseman's insight is much appreciated, we'll have to wait for official confirmation from Valve as he hasn't been associated with them since 2005.
