M80 and Nouns set to face off in Thunderpick World Championship grand finals

Who's going to travel to Europe and claim the $20,000?

After breezing past the opposition, M80 showed impressive form by comfortably beating Wildcard in the semifinals. At the same time, Nouns struggled to get things going against NRG but ultimately survived to meet the M80 squad in the grand final.

M80 2-0 Wildcard United States

M80 have been on a tear lately, seemingly getting better and better, and their run at the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 NA Series #1 is just one more example. Yet to lose double-digit rounds in a single map, M80 were confident taking on Wildcard, and that confidence rose even more after an 8-4 T-side on Ancient which was backed by a 5-1 CT-side, taking the 13-5 map win.

Going into Dust2, M80 chose to start on the T-side and had the 7-5 lead going into the half before another CT-side masterclass which netted them the 13-7 Dust2 win and the ticket to the grand final.

United States NRG 1-2 Nouns United States

On the other side of the bracket, NRG were very close to taking the grand final spot from Nouns, but two consistent maps from Jeorge "Jeorge" Endicott and breakout performances from Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly and Christopher "cJ dA K1nG" Jones in the second and third maps turned things around for the DAO-backed squad. The series started with NRG taking a map lead with authority after beating Nouns 13-5 on Inferno.

Then, Nouns woke up. It wasn't like taking candy from a child, as Nouns only had one member with less than 25 kills on map two, but after each team took a T-side 8-4 win, Mirage was home to three overtimes before NRG were beaten 22-18. With the series tied, the teams went to Nuke, where Nouns took a commanding 10-2 CT-side lead at the half but almost blew it. Ultimately, NRG wasn't able to replicate that run, and the Nouns took the 13-9 win and secured a grand finals spot.
