Complexity exploring replacement AWPer
Dust2.us understand the Complexity are in the process of looking for a new AWPer to replace Paytyn "junior" Johnson, with the embattled player already being informed of the organization's intentions. The news comes in the wake of Complexity's last-finish in the IEM Cologne 2022 Play-in, which capped off a dismal season for the Dallas-based organization.
The former FURIA and Bad News Bears AWPer has struggled immensely to find his footing in tier-one Counter-Strike, with his HLTV rating during the Challengers Stage of the PGL Antwerp Major notably being the second-lowest of that stage. While he has seen some minor improvement since the Major, Complexity has elected to try and find a more suitable upgrade for the world stage. Sources have informed Dust2.us that the organization might be looking towards European talent to fill the vacancy due to the lack of suitable NA-based replacements.
During his short stint with Jason Lake’s legendary brand, junior competed in fourteen events, with ten of those being against international opposition. While competing against domestic competition, junior appeared much more comfortable, posting a positive rating in the four regional events he attended. The international stage is where junior could never find his footing as he failed to find any real impact on the AWP, an incredibly important weapon in the current meta. While this was not junior's first stint at tier one, there were higher hopes for his run with Complexity as the communication problems which were evident in FURIA would not be an issue.
Seven months since Complexity assembled this lineup by signing the Extra Salt core of Ricky "floppy" Kemery, Justin "FaNg" Coakley, and Johnny "JT" Theodosiou alongside junior and Michael "Grim" Wince, they have failed to make any meaningful impact in international Counter-Strike. Alongside their last-place finish at the IEM Cologne Play-in, the team finished 13th-16th at IEM Dallas and 12th-14th in the Challengers Stage of the PGL Antwerp Major, with their only win coming against Mongolian side IHC. They also struggled at ESL Pro League Season 15, winning only one series in their group against the embattled Evil Geniuses lineup.
Complexity have little time to find their replacement as BLAST Premier Fall Groups are set to start on August 19th and the roster lock is set for July 28th. Dust2.us reached out to Complexity for comment, however they declined to provide a statement.
Should junior's move to the bench be confirmed, Complexity would be:
-
Johnny "JT" Theodosiou
-
Justin "FaNg" Coakley
-
Ricky "floppy" Kemery
-
Michael "Grim" Wince
-
Tiaan "T.c" Coertzen (Coach)
-
Paytyn "junior" Johnson (Inactive)
