Liquid to face FlyQuest tomorrow
FlyQuest became the first Australian team to make it to ESL Pro League playoffs since Season 8 and they have now advanced out of the first round of playoff thanks to a best-of-three win against BetBoom. The win now pits the Australians against Liquid who earned their spot in the second round of playoffs due to wins over FURIA and Monte.
FlyQuest and BetBoom kept the series exceptionally close as the Russian stole the Australian's pick of Vertigo 13-11 following a lights-out performance on their CT-side. FlyQuest were able to even up the score when they used their dominant T-side to pull ahead on Mirage and take the victory 13-9.
With FlyQuest having two strong T-sides so far, Anubis looked like the map where they would clearly pull way ahead. However, BetBoom held it close on their CT-side and kept it even at the half. Surprisingly it was the CT-side of FlyQuest that helped the squad come ahead and secure a 13-9 map win and a 2-1 series victory.
Liquid have had some time to rest following their wins over FURIA and Monte while also time in the practice room to look at what went wrong against MOUZ. The international roster are slowly picking up the pace in recent months as they deal with missing out of the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major and start the process of gearing up for the Shanghai cycle.
A win over FlyQuest is likely to be expected for Liquid due to the caliber of their players, however Felipe "skullz" Medeiros has been performing below expectations so far this event. The Brazilian is the 8th worst player so far in the event with a HLTV Rating of 0.83 across seven maps. He is the lowest-rated player in playoffs with the now-eliminated BetBoom IGL Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov the second-worst with a 0.89 rating across 13 maps.
Liquid will need to get skullz back in form tomorrow as they fight for the honor of playing against Astralis on Friday in the ESL Pro League Season 19 quarterfinals.
