Cloud9 eye STYKO as fifth player in Cologne
According to reports, Martin "STYKO" Styk will be playing under the American banner at ESL One Cologne, as Cloud9 have submitted him as their temporary 5th for the event, with approval from ESL still pending.
As we reported earlier this week, ESL allowed teams to extend the roster submission deadline for Cologne to the June 28th with a fine. Cloud9 were one of the teams that were expected to take the deadline with Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas being reported as one of the team's prime candidates at the time.
However after STYKO was benched by mousesports in favor of Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski, Cloud9 reconsidered their options and have finally decided on the Slovakian player to stand in. Oddly, STYKO will stand in for the Americans after having just competed at ESL One Belo Horizonte with Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert, a former long-time member of Cloud9.
While Cloud9 have decided on STYKO as their temporary fifth in Cologne, the roster change has yet to be confirmed by ESL. Due to rules concerning rosters for ESL events, STYKO could be temporarily barred from attending ESL events with mousesports following Cologne should he don the Cloud9 jersey. The reason for this ban is due to STYKO playing with another organization while still being under contract with mousesports.
Dust2.us has learned that STYKO and Cloud9 have been actively practicing online, however the team is still wary of the possibility of ESL denying the roster.
Cloud9's tentative roster for Cologne looks to be:
- Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham
- Timothy "autimatic" Ta
- Tarik "tarik" Celek
- Will "RUSH" Wierzba
- Martin "STYKO" Styk
- Soham "valens" Chowdhury (Coach)
ESL One Cologne is set to begin on July 3rd and run through to July 8th in Cologne, Germany. Both Cloud9 and mousesports are set to compete at the event.
